Interview to the vicar Hugh Lee

Here are the questions and the answers from the vicar. It was a very interesting meeting; his answers were useful for us because they were about regret seen from a religious piont of view as well as a more general moral one.

• From the Christian point of view, what does repentance represent?

- Repentance, comes from the greek "metanoia",and means to change our lives.

• What does Bible say about repentance and regret?

- The Bible says a lot of things, one of them, to be open to God's love,it is one of its main themes.

• Why is repentance important in Chistianity?

-Because if we repent we are open and we enjoy life.

• There are a number of passages in the Epistles and Revelation which present repentance as a condition of temporal salvation. What does it mean from your point of view?

- We must repent to be saved and to be open to God's love. For exemple, the criminal on the cross near Jesus repented and recognised God, so he went to Paradise.

• What should a Christian do when he regrets something?

-I is very important to say sorry to people and to God, and repair what is possible to express our sorrow.

• Do you think people are inclined to repent and do they repent truthfully?

- Depends on the person. But if it's difficult to say sorry,it probably means the sorrow is really true.

• What do you think about destiny? Do you believe that things you regret could have been different or do you believe it was just destiny that it turned out as it did?

- I don't believe in destiny. God is love and love means freedom. There isn't destiny and we have the choise to love people or not to love them.
